At The Peugeot Specialist, our Nuneaton MOT centre tests hundreds of vehicles each year and we are proven experts in what we do. Our team here at The Peugeot Specialist have all been through and passed the DVSA’s strict training programme and are reassessed on a regular basis to ensure that we keep our standards up.

In addition to carrying out MOT tests in Nuneaton, we can also carry out MOT preparation work and if for whatever reason your car fails its MOT, we have all the tools and expertise required to carry out any necessary repairs. We can then retest your vehicle and get you back on the road safely.

At The Peugeot Specialist we are one of the very few local garages that can carry out Class 4, 5 & 7 MOTs, so if your vehicle needs an MOT test, or you are unsure when your MOT test is due, give our friendly team in Nuneaton a call, and we’ll take care of the rest.

What is an MOT test?

The MOT test is an annual test of a vehicle’s safety, roadworthiness and exhaust emissions. A valid MOT certificate is a legal requirement in the UK for most vehicles over three years old.

Your MOT test must be done annually and can be carried out up to a month before the expiry date (the expiry date will never change). If your vehicle passes its MOT you will receive an MOT certificate valid for 12 months, after which it must be tested again. If your vehicle should fail, our qualified and experienced technicians will make light work of any repairs needed for the retest.

What does MOT stand for?

MOT stands for Ministry of Transport. Every motor vehicle on the road must have a valid MOT certificate once it is three years old.

Can I drive without an MOT?

It’s illegal to drive without an MOT and can lead to an expensive fine. There are, however, two exceptions to the rule:

  1.  If your MOT certificate has run out but you are driving to an MOT centre to drop your vehicle off for its test
  2.  If your vehicle has failed its MOT test but you had the test earlier than the actual due date (you can have an MOT test up to a month before the day your MOT expires). In this case, you can keep driving your vehicle until your previous MOT certificate expires unless dangerous problems were identified during the MOT test in which case, you’ll have to leave your vehicle at the garage for repairs.

Do electric cars need an MOT?

As with a petrol or diesel vehicle, any electric vehicle over three years old needs to pass an annual MOT test for roadworthiness. All the same components as a standard fuel vehicle will be checked (see “What is checked during an MOT test” further down this page) with the main difference being that more emphasis is placed on the battery check in an electric vehicle and that there is no exhaust to check, or emissions testing required. You can take your electric vehicle to any MOT testing centre for its test regardless of whether that garage works on electric vehicles or not. Give our team at The Peugeot Specialist a call with any questions about EV MOT testing in Nuneaton.

What is checked during an MOT test?

The MOT test is a thorough test of the important parts of your car to ensure that they meet both the DVSA’s safety and environmental requirements.

The test includes multiple checks on your car, spanning from the brakes and fuel system to the lights, mirrors, seatbelts, windscreen wipers and the exhaust system. The clutch, gearbox and engine are not included in the test.

Most vehicles fail the MOT test for small reasons such as faulty bulbs or worn tyres so it’s always worth carrying out a few pre-MOT checks before the test such as checking tyre tread, oil levels, the condition of wipers, that there are no chips or cracks on the windscreen and that all lights and indicators are working correctly. If you’re not confident doing those checks, give the team at The Peugeot Specialist a call on 024 7638 2769 a call and we’ll be happy to help you out.
