Do I need to bring any documents to the MOT test?

There’s no requirement to bring any documents relating to your vehicle to the MOT test. We can access all the relevant information online.

How can I find out when my MOT is due?

Once they are three years old, most vehicles need an MOT test every 12 months to ensure that they are safe to drive. If you can’t remember when your next MOT test is due, you can either:

What are MOT advisories?

Advisory notes are issues that are picked up during the MOT test which aren’t serious enough to make your vehicle fail but which the tester recommends are dealt with in the near future. For example, a common advisory note is that your tyres are getting close to the minimum tread depth, not close enough to fail the MOT test, but close enough that you are advised to replace those tyres as soon as you can.

If your MOT test at The Peugeot Specialist shows advisories, one of our team will explain them to you and advise on the best course of action for each one.

What happens if my vehicle fails its MOT?

If your vehicle fails its MOT, you’ll need to have any repairs carried out and then have the vehicle retested. We can do all the repairs here at The Peugeot Specialist and in that case, the retest is free of charge. If your previous MOT certificate is still valid and there were no dangerous problems identified during the test, you can take your vehicle away as long as the repairs are undertaken and the vehicle retested before the day the MOT expires. However, if we find any major issues which would make the vehicle unsafe to drive, you won’t be able to drive it until it’s repaired.

Does it matter if I’ve lost my MOT certificate?

If you’ve lost or damaged your MOT certificate, there are two ways that you can get a new one.

  1. Go to https://www.gov.uk/replacing-lost-damaged-mot-certificate where you can order a replacement MOT certificate free of charge. You’ll need your vehicle’s registration number and the 11-digit reference number which you can find on the vehicle’s V5C (vehicle registration document).
  2. You can pop into any MOT testing centre, such as The Peugeot Specialist with your registration number and the V5C reference number and they’ll be able to give you a replacement certificate. Just be aware that this method of replacing your MOT certificate generally incurs a small fee.
